24 Teachers Recognized as Stars of Innovative Education

Bright House Networks rewards teachers for using cable programming to educate students in the classroom

Orlando, FL – (April 2, 2008) – Bright House Networks will honor 24 teachers who have been selected as some of the most innovative teachers at the annual Star Teacher Awards gala to be held on June 10 at SeaWorld Orlando Ports of Call. The Star Teacher Awards program is in its 19th year, and recognizes teachers who use Cable in the Classroom to help develop classroom projects that enhance the learning experience for students. The 2008 Bright House Networks Star Teacher Awards program is sponsored by A&E Television Networks and NBC Universal Cable.

Along with attending the recognition event in June, Bright House Networks is recognizing each winning teacher with a share of a $10,000 cash prize; an all expense paid educational trip to Savannah, Georgia; and a Crystal Star trophy.

“The Star Teacher Awards program is our commitment to supporting quality education in our communities by honoring innovative teachers and recognizing the unique learning opportunities they bring to students in their classroom,” said Jennifer Mooney, vice president, corporate government and public affairs, Bright House Networks.

The Star Teacher Awards competition is open to educators in all six Bright House Networks divisions. An independent panel of judges selected ten out of a total of 23 entries. The projects were judged on overall program content, relevance to the curriculum, learning benefits to students, innovative approach, quality of materials and activities, duration of the project, frequency and effective use of cable programming and number of students impacted.

Bright House Networks provides the connection and basic cable service free to virtually all schools in the company’s service areas. Connected schools receive more than 540 hours of commercial-free, educational programming each month at no charge through Bright House Networks membership in Cable in the Classroom.

Lead Sponsorship of the 2007 – 2008 Bright House Networks Star Teacher Awards program is provided this year by A&E Television Networks.

“A&E Television Networks is delighted to join Bright House Networks in honoring the work of this outstanding group of teachers,” said Dr. Libby O'Connell, Chief Historian, SVP, Corporate Outreach, A&E Television Networks. Through their innovative work in the classroom, the Star Teacher award winners inspire young people and their fellow educators every day. We congratulate and thank them for their commitment to excellence in education.”

The host sponsor of the Star Teacher Awards Gala on June 10 in Orlando is NBC Universal Cable. This year’s event will be held at SeaWorld Ports of Call located in Orlando, Florida
